Nigeria Prepares to Host Congo U-23 and Equatorial Guinea Women’s Teams for Olympic Qualifiers
The Nigerian national teams are set for a busy weekend as they prepare to host crucial Olympic qualifying matches against Congo and Equatorial Guinea.
The Congolese U-23 national team is expected to arrive in Port Harcourt on Friday evening for the final qualifying round of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (scheduled for December in Senegal). Coached by veteran Claude Leroy, Congo advanced to this stage by eliminating Ghana in the second round.
Meanwhile, the Equatorial Guinea women’s national team will arrive in Abuja aboard a special flight. The delegation, led by supervising minister André Jorge Mbomio Nsem, will include 45 officials and 100 supporters. The Super Falcons will face Equatorial Guinea in the third round of the women’s Olympic qualifiers on Saturday.
Both matches are vital steps toward securing a spot in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and expectations are high for Nigeria’s teams to deliver strong performances at home.
