Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem re-joins French outfit FC Nantes on three-year deal

Nigeria international Chidozie Awaziem has made a sensational return to French Ligue 1 outfit FC Nantes in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old defender joins Nantes on a three-year deal from Major League Soccer outfit Colorado Rapids, bringing an end to his spell in the North American country.

Awaziem joined Colorado Rapids in December 2024 and established himself as a key member of the team during his short spell.

The Enugu, Nigeria native made 21 appearances across all competitions for Colorado, including MLS regular season and Concacaf Champions Cup. He registered 1,864 minutes and delivered one assist during his time with the club.

His move marks his return to Nantes, having previously featured for the French outfit before departing for spells in Portugal, Turkey and Croatia.

Nantes were in the market for a centre-back after parting ways with Jean-Charles Castelletto and Nicolas Pallois. The experienced defender will wear the number 6 jersey for the club.
