It is with sadness that we learn of the passing of Thompson Oliha, another former champion of African football. The ex-Nigeria Super Eagles midfielder, who was a part of the victorious 1994 CAN team in Tunisia, passed away on Sunday. His death occurred at Ilorin Hospital in Kwara State after experiencing a seizure in the toilet, as reported by doctors.
Born on October 4, 1968, Oliha may not be the most widely recognized figure from the Super Eagles, but he played a significant role in the success of the team during the 1994 African Cup of Nations. Unfortunately, recurring injuries led him to cut short his professional career. Prior to his retirement, he had the opportunity to play for clubs in both Africa and Europe. In recent times, he served as the head of the Kwara Football Academy in Nigeria. Thompson Oliha’s contributions to Nigerian football will be remembered.
