Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has called for continued focus and determination from his players following a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over regional rivals Shooting Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The South West derby, held at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday, was decided by a single moment of brilliance, as Alex Oyowah found the net in the 30th minute to hand the visitors all three points.
The victory strengthened Remo Stars’ position at the top of the NPFL table, preserving their seven-point lead as the season enters its decisive stretch.
Despite the win, Ogunmodede remains grounded.
Speaking in a video posted on the club’s official social media platforms, he said: “We are not getting carried away with congratulations. We will continue to fight in the remaining four matches.”
Having finished as runners-up in consecutive seasons, Remo Stars are in sight of their first-ever league crown.
Ogunmodede made it clear that the team’s ambition is to go one step further this year and clinch the title.
However, he warned against complacency, emphasising that every match from now on would be critical in their pursuit of glory.
“We have come close before,” the coach noted. “This time, we want to make history. But we must remain committed, concentrated, and united.”
While pleased with the performance on the pitch, Ogunmodede expressed his disappointment at the lack of spectators during the derby clash, which was played behind closed doors.
“The spectators are the icing on the cake,” he lamented. “Football is not the same without the fans, especially in a match of this magnitude.”
Remo Stars, nicknamed the Sky Blue Stars, will now turn their attention to their upcoming fixture against the Niger Tornadoes.
With only four games left in the season, every point will be vital as they attempt to maintain their lead and write a new chapter in the club’s history.
The coach’s message to his squad was clear: the job is far from done.
The team must remain disciplined and resilient if they are to secure their long-awaited breakthrough in Nigerian football.
