Nigeria’s coach, Stephen Keshi, has excluded Peter Odemwingie and John Mikel Obi from the squad for the first leg of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers. Other experienced players, including Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Taye Taiwo, and Kalu Uche, were also left out. Keshi has opted for a mix of local and foreign-based players, recalling Nosa Igiebor, Emmanuel Emenike, and Brown Ideye. Vincent Enyeama is the only expatriate goalkeeper called up. The team will face Liberia in the CAN 2013 qualifiers in September. The decision was discussed and approved in a meeting between Keshi and the National Technical Directorate of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
