Nigeria announces squad for World Cup African play-offs in Rabat
Eric Chelle, head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has revealed a 26-man squad ahead of the much-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification play-offs in Rabat, Morocco.
Nigeria, three-time African champions, will face Gabon in a critical semifinal clash on November 13. The winner will advance to meet either DR Congo or Cameroon for a chance to secure a spot in the expanded World Cup, set to be hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada.
Chelle’s roster mixes seasoned veterans with emerging talents. Goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye, and Amas Obasogie provide stability at the back. Captain William Troost-Ekong anchors a defense that includes Calvin Bassey and Bright Osayi-Samuel. The midfield features Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, and Alhassan Yusuf, bringing creativity and control.
Up front, Nigeria boasts firepower from Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon, backed by Samuel Chukwueze, Chidera Ejuke, Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Olakunle Olusegun. Coach Chelle faces high expectations to lead Nigeria back to the World Cup after their absence in 2022.
