The Nigerian national team secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations for the 16th time in its history after defeating Angola in the ongoing CAN 2023 held in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria becomes the first team to advance to the semi-finals of the current Africa Cup of Nations football tournament in Ivory Coast.

This achievement follows their 1-0 victory over Angola in the quarter-final stage of the competition.

Ademola Lookman scored the lone goal of the match for Nigeria in the 41st minute.

The Nigerian team will face the winner of the quarter-final match between Cape Verde and South Africa in the next stage, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

Seeking their fourth title in history, Nigeria previously clinched the championship in 1980, 1994, and 2013.

 Historic Achievement for Nigeria

With this feat, the Nigerian national team has equaled Egypt’s record as the most successful teams in reaching the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

This marks the first time that two teams have tied in the number of appearances in the semi-finals of the tournament.

This achievement underscores Nigeria’s historical dominance in African football throughout the tournament’s history.
