Nicolas Pépé recalled by Ivory Coast after Diomandé injury
Nicolas Pépé has been recalled to the Ivory Coast squad for the March 2026 international window following the withdrawal of Yan Diomandé due to injury.
The winger, who missed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, returns to the national setup after being selected by head coach Emerse Faé.
His inclusion comes as a direct replacement for Diomandé, who has been ruled out of the upcoming friendly matches.
In an official statement, the Ivorian Football Federation confirmed that the RB Leipzig player would not be able to take part in the fixtures against South Korea national team and Scotland national team.
The injury was sustained on March 20, 2026, during a Bundesliga match.
“The Ivorian Football Federation informs the press, its partners, and the sporting public that Ivorian international Yan Diomandé, called up by national coach Émerse Faé for the two international friendly matches against South Korea and Scotland, has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury sustained on Friday, March 20, 2026, in the Bundesliga.
The RB Leipzig player is therefore replaced by Nicolas Pépé, who plays for Villarreal CF, for this FIFA international window in March 2026. The Ivorian Football Federation sends Yan Diomandé its best wishes for a speedy recovery and reiterates its full support,” reads a statement released by the Ivorian Federation.
Diomandé’s absence has prompted the coaching staff to turn to Pépé, who is currently playing for Villarreal CF.
The recall offers the former Arsenal FC player an opportunity to re-establish himself within the national team setup.
Having not featured at the last Africa Cup of Nations, Pépé’s return marks a significant moment in his international career. The upcoming fixtures now present him with a chance to make an impact and strengthen his position within the squad.
For Ivory Coast, the adjustment ensures continuity ahead of their scheduled matches, while also providing an experienced option to fill the gap left by Diomandé’s injury.
