Nicolas Pépé nearing return as Villarreal prepares for Real Sociedad clash
Villarreal forward Nicolas Pépé is on the verge of making a return to action after being sidelined for weeks due to a thigh injury.
The Ivorian international resumed training on Thursday, January 9, marking his first session with the squad since sustaining the injury in November.
Pépé’s last appearance came on November 9, 2024, during Villarreal’s La Liga match against Deportivo Alavés.
Despite being substituted due to the injury, the former Arsenal and OGC Nice player made his mark with an assist before leaving the pitch.
Since then, he has missed seven matches across all competitions, leaving a noticeable gap in Villarreal’s attacking lineup.
Now back in training, Pépé is expected to feature in Villarreal’s upcoming fixture against Real Sociedad on January 13.
The match presents a significant test for both the Ivorian winger and his team as they aim to climb the La Liga standings.
This season, Pépé has registered one goal and two assists in 11 appearances for Villarreal.
While his contribution has been modest, his return is seen as a boost for the team’s offensive options.
Pépé’s pace, technical skill, and creativity will be crucial as Villarreal faces a challenging opponent in Real Sociedad, currently one of the top teams in the league.
The recovery process has been gradual but promising for the 28-year-old forward.
His return to training signals the end of a frustrating period on the sidelines and offers a chance to regain form and rhythm.
Villarreal manager Quique Setién is likely to monitor Pépé’s fitness closely ahead of Sunday’s match, ensuring he is ready to contribute effectively without risking further injury.
Pépé’s comeback comes at a critical juncture for Villarreal, who are striving to secure consistent results in a tightly contested La Liga campaign.
His presence on the field could add a new dimension to the team’s attacking play, providing much-needed width and incisiveness against a strong Real Sociedad side.
Fans and teammates alike will be eager to see Pépé back in action, hoping that the Ivorian can deliver the kind of performances that have made him a standout player in European football.
As Villarreal gears up for the clash, all eyes will be on Pépé to see if he can make an immediate impact and help steer the team toward success.
