Nicolas Jackson targets Champions League hat-trick

Nicolas Jackson says he hopes to score a hat-trick in his next Champions League appearance after netting twice in Aston Villa’s 6-0 victory over Fenerbahçe at Villa Park on Wednesday.

The Senegal international was pleased with his contribution to the emphatic win, but stressed that securing all three points and keeping a clean sheet were more important than his personal achievements.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Jackson highlighted the importance of the result as Aston Villa continued their Champions League campaign.

“It’s a very good win today. We’re very happy to have secured it in this second Champions League match. The most important thing is also not to concede a goal.”

The former Chelsea striker has been keen to maintain his scoring form and help his new team achieve its objectives. He said his focus remained on finding the net regularly, contributing to the team’s success and meeting his manager’s expectations.

“I’m simply trying to score in every match, to win, and to help the team. It’s also important to play for the manager. I’m focused on the pitch; that’s the most important thing for me.”

Jackson also spoke positively about his partnership with Johan Manzambi in Aston Villa’s attack, expressing hope that the pair could develop a productive understanding and contribute more goals and assists.

“He’s a very good player. I’m very happy to be playing with him. I hope we score a lot of goals together and provide a lot of assists.”

The Senegalese forward also welcomed the opportunity to play alongside compatriot Ibrahim Mbaye, with whom he already shares a connection through the national team.

Jackson believes the relationship they have built while representing Senegal could help them work effectively together at club level. He also praised Mbaye’s pace and development, while expressing his hope that the youngster would receive more opportunities to play.

“We’re together in the national team, so we have a good connection and we talk a lot. He’s improving. I hope he gets more playing time. He’s an exceptional player, very fast, like me. It’s good to have him with us today. I hope he gets many more starts and scores a lot of goals.”

Despite scoring twice, Jackson was unable to complete his hat-trick, with Ross Barkley taking a penalty during the match. The striker admitted he would have liked the opportunity to score from the spot but accepted that the team had rules to follow.

“Yes, I wanted to take them, but there are rules.” I’m very happy. The most important thing is that we won. I hope I’ll get my hat trick next time.

Jackson’s comments underlined his determination to continue scoring while prioritising the team’s results. Although he missed out on a hat-trick against Fenerbahçe, the Senegalese striker left the match satisfied with Aston Villa’s performance and hopeful of adding more goals in his next appearance.
