The controversy surrounding Nico Williams has intensified after vandals defaced a mural of the Athletic Club star for the second time in a week.
The artwork in Barakaldo, which features Nico and his brother Inaki Williams, was once again targeted, this time with Nico’s face destroyed and an offensive message scrawled beside it.
Last week, the same mural was hit with the message: “Whether you stay or go, you have lost respect.” It was quickly restored by artist Carlos Lopez, with support from Athletic Club. Inaki Williams expressed his gratitude publicly. However, just a day later, vandals struck again.
This repeated attack comes at a time when the Spanish-Ghanaian winger is at the center of intense transfer speculation. Reports in Spain suggest the 22-year-old winger has asked Barcelona to wrap up negotiations before July 9, when Athletic Club players are expected back in training.
While the club is reportedly doing all it can to prevent the move, tensions among fans continue to rise, and this act of vandalism reflects the emotional divide over Nico’s uncertain future.
