Athletic Club winger Nico Williams is expected to miss between six and eight weeks as he continues to struggle with pubalgia, a long‑running groin injury.
Spanish TV show El Chiringuito reports that the Spain international will now try a different course of treatment after previous therapy with the club failed to ease his pain.
The Spanish-Ghanaian winger’s condition has become a growing worry for both Athletic and the national team, with the discomfort reportedly increasing rather than improving in recent weeks. His participation at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada is now in serious doubt, as any setback or prolonged recovery could eat into his preparation time for the tournament.
Athletic’s medical staff are currently assessing all available options, including the possibility of surgery if conservative methods do not work. An operation could sideline Williams for even longer, further complicating his World Cup prospects, so no definitive decision has yet been taken.
“He will try another treatment for his pubalgia. The one he did with the club did not help him improve,” El Chiringuito reported, underlining the uncertainty surrounding one of Spain’s brightest wide talents.
