Nice linked with Rennes and Ghana defender Alidu Seidu

Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu could move from Rennes to fellow Ligue 1 club Nice, with the 26-year-old the subject of transfer interest reported on 16 September.

The possible switch would keep Seidu in France’s top flight, where he has been under contract with Rennes since joining from Clermont Foot in January 2024. Rennes paid €11m for the centre-back, who is valued at €6m and has a deal with the club until 30 June 2029.

Seidu has yet to appear for Rennes in Ligue 1 this season after four possible matches. He has also not featured for the club in the Europa League campaign, while he made one appearance for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup.

The defender began his senior career with Clermont Foot after moving from Clermont B in 2020 and spent more than three years with the club before completing his move to Rennes. His time at Rennes has so far included a transfer fee significantly above his current listed market value, although no fee has been reported for a potential move to Nice.

Nice and Rennes are both competing in Ligue 1, and the proposed transfer would therefore represent a domestic move rather than a change of country for Seidu. The rumour remains unconfirmed, with Seidu contracted to Rennes for almost three more years.
