Nice bring in Ghana defender Alidu Seidu for Ligue 1 loan spell

Ghana centre-back Alidu Seidu has joined Nice from Rennes on loan until 30 June 2027, completing a move to the Ligue 1 club.

The 26-year-old defender, who was born in Accra, becomes part of Nice’s squad for the 2026-27 campaign after leaving Rennes, where he had played since January 2024. The transfer is a temporary switch between two French top-flight clubs, with Seidu due to return to Rennes at the end of the loan.

Seidu joined Rennes from Clermont Foot in a permanent move on 29 January 2024 for €11m. He had previously progressed from Clermont B to the Clermont Foot first team, having arrived in France from JMG Abidjan in 2019.

The right-footed defender is 1.73m tall and plays primarily at centre-back. His move to Nice gives the club an experienced option in central defence, while the agreement keeps his long-term registration with Rennes beyond the current season.

Seidu has been involved with Ghana at international level and featured at the 2026 World Cup. He made one appearance in the tournament, playing 21% of the available minutes and receiving one yellow card.

Nice are competing in Ligue 1 and the Europa League this season. Seidu’s arrival comes after the start of the domestic campaign, although he has yet to make an appearance for the club in either competition.

At Rennes, Seidu’s market value was recorded at €6m at the time of the move. His highest recorded market value was €9m, reflecting his status as an established defender within the French game.

The move marks Seidu’s fifth senior club change since beginning his career with JMG Abidjan. He spent the 2019-20 season with Clermont B before stepping up to Clermont Foot, then moved to Rennes and now switches to Nice for the 2026-27 season.

Seidu has joined Nice on loan from Rennes, with the agreement running until 30 June 2027.
