NFF sets salary cap in bid to keep Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle
The Nigeria Football Federation is working on a new contract to keep Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, but talks are being shaped by a firm salary ceiling.
According to reports, the NFF has proposed a maximum wage of 100,000 dollars per month, while the Franco-Malian tactician is pushing for around 130,000 dollars.
Chelle currently earns roughly 50,000 dollars a month, and his request for a significant pay rise is understood to factor in better remuneration for his backroom staff as well. The federation is open to improving his terms but insists it cannot go beyond the 100,000 dollars mark, mindful of its budget and the long-term sustainability of the national team setup.
Officials in Abuja remain keen to maintain continuity after recent progress with the Super Eagles and are prioritising stability on the bench.
However, they are also weighing up alternatives in case negotiations break down, with another foreign coach seen as more likely than turning to a local option at this stage. For now, Chelle continues his work as normal and is expected to name his squad soon for the upcoming international friendlies in the next FIFA window.
