Neymar transfer claim raises prospect of Messi, Suarez and Neymar reunion at Inter Miami

A return for Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez to the same attack could become a possibility, after former Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo claimed Neymar may join Inter Miami when his contract with Santos expires.

Melo said he had been told that Neymar would move to the Major League Soccer club in January, following the end of his current agreement with Santos in December.

Speaking on YouTube, Melo said: “I spoke to a friend of mine who had previously told me some news about Santos. He told me that Neymar will play in Miami. Neymar will start playing for Inter Miami from January.”

He added: “If that happens, I will be the first person to announce the news here. Let’s wait and see what happens.”

The comments, reported by The Sun, have intensified speculation about the next stage of Neymar’s career. His contract with Santos is due to expire on 31 December 2026, and the 34-year-old has also been linked with a move to Turkish club Galatasaray.

There is currently no agreement between Neymar and Inter Miami, and the Brazil forward still has decisions to make over the final years of his playing career. However, the presence of Messi and Suarez at the club, combined with the possibility of Neymar becoming a free agent, has made the prospect of the trio playing together again less far-fetched.

The three forwards formed one of the most prolific attacking partnerships in football history during their time at Barcelona from 2014 to 2017. Known collectively as MSN, Messi, Neymar and Suarez combined pace, creativity and finishing ability to overwhelm opponents across Europe.

Together, they won nine trophies with Barcelona, including the UEFA Champions League, two La Liga titles and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Their first season as a trio ended with Barcelona completing a historic treble under manager Luis Enrique. They scored 122 goals in all competitions that campaign, with Messi contributing 58, Neymar 39 and Suarez 25.

Their performances established the attack as one of the most feared in the modern game and helped Barcelona dominate both domestic and European competition.

A move to Inter Miami would reunite Neymar with Messi and Suarez, who already play together for the Florida-based side. It would also give Beckham, who owns the club, the opportunity to bring back a celebrated partnership that helped define Barcelona’s success.

For Inter Miami and MLS, Neymar’s arrival would represent more than an eye-catching reunion on the pitch. His global profile could provide a significant commercial boost for both the club and the league.

The central question, however, would be whether Neymar can still perform consistently at the highest level. Injuries have disrupted his career in recent years and affected his ability to maintain regular form, although his talent and worldwide popularity remain undoubted.

If the move were to happen, it could provide Neymar with a final major chapter alongside two of his former Barcelona team-mates. For Beckham, signing the Brazilian would amount to a powerful statement of intent, even though no deal has yet been reached.
