Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has revealed that his football idol is none other than former club star Neymar.
The Spanish youngster of Moroccan descent described the Brazilian forward as a “legend” and emphasized his unique qualities that set him apart from other players.
In an interview with CNN, Yamal fondly recalled his early memories of Neymar, stating that Neymar has always been his inspiration.
While acknowledging the greatness of Lionel Messi during his time at Barcelona, Yamal insisted that Neymar was “totally different.”
“I was five years old when I saw him at Santos, but seven years old when I saw him in person at FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou,” said the Barcelona star in an interview with CNN.
“It was incredible to see him. Yes, it’s true that (Lionel) Messi was there who was also incredible, but he was something totally different,” he continued.
“Neymar has always been my idol. He’s a star, a football legend.”
Since making his debut for Barcelona, the 17-year-old has made a significant impact on the pitch.
He played a vital role in helping Spain secure victory in the 2024 Euros held in Germany, further solidifying his reputation as one of the best young talents in football.
