In an official press release issued on Monday, the Catalan club announced that it had paid €13.55 million to the Spanish tax authorities, despite maintaining its belief that the transfer was conducted lawfully.

Josep Maria Bartomeu, the current president of FC Barcelona, reiterated the club’s stance, asserting that they would proceed with the Neymar transfer in the same manner if given the chance again. However, he acknowledged the possibility of additional costs if the €13.55 million is not returned within two years.

Bartomeu emphasized that the legal proceedings stemmed from a complaint filed by a club member, Jordi Cases. He defended the club’s efforts to secure Neymar’s transfer, stating that despite competing offers, the Brazilian star chose Barcelona.

Javier Faus, the vice-president of FC Barcelona, provided further insight into the club’s actions, noting their compliance with tax obligations and collaboration with tax specialists and agencies. He expressed confidence in the club’s position despite the legal challenges it faces.
