Newcastle rekindle interest in Abdessamad Ezzalzouli

Newcastle United have reportedly reopened discussions with representatives of Moroccan international Abdessamad Ezzalzouli as they step up plans to strengthen their wide attacking options ahead of the new season.

The move comes after the Premier League side suffered a setback in their pursuit of Spanish winger Víctor Muñoz, who is said to be edging closer to a switch to Liverpool, forcing Newcastle to reassess their transfer targets.

According to reports, Newcastle have now revived contact with the camp of Ezzalzouli, the dynamic winger currently on the books of La Liga side Real Betis, having previously monitored him alongside their interest in Muñoz.

The Magpies’ recruitment team had been tracking both players in recent weeks, but negotiations over Muñoz progressed more rapidly before the Liverpool deal gained momentum, prompting a shift back to the Moroccan star.

Despite temporarily focusing on other targets, Newcastle have not cooled their interest in the 23-year-old winger, with internal scouting assessments reportedly viewing him as a strong fit for the English game.

The club believes Ezzalzouli’s direct playing style, physical strength, and ability to take on defenders in one-versus-one situations would translate effectively to the Premier League under manager Eddie Howe.

Newcastle’s recruitment team is understood to be prioritising wide attacking reinforcements as part of their long-term squad development strategy, with pace and creativity in the final third seen as key areas for improvement.

Ezzalzouli has enjoyed an impressive spell in Spain, delivering standout performances for Real Betis and establishing himself as one of their most dangerous attacking outlets.

He reportedly finished the previous campaign with 15 goals and 13 assists across all competitions, numbers that have significantly boosted his reputation across Europe and attracted interest from several top clubs.

The winger, formerly of CA Osasuna during his early La Liga development, has continued to evolve into a more complete attacker, combining dribbling flair with improved end product.

However, his momentum was disrupted on the international stage after he was forced to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Morocco due to injury.

Ezzalzouli suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee shortly before the tournament began, ruling him out of action at a crucial moment for the Atlas Lions.

Despite the setback, reports suggest his recovery is now progressing positively, with the winger nearing full fitness ahead of pre-season preparations.

Newcastle’s renewed interest also comes amid growing competition in the transfer market, with Liverpool FC now believed to be accelerating their own recruitment plans for attacking reinforcements.

With elite Premier League clubs circling, Ezzalzouli’s future is expected to be one of the more closely watched transfer stories of the summer window, especially given his strong statistical output and attacking versatility.

For Newcastle, the Moroccan winger remains a serious option as they look to add depth, pace, and unpredictability to their frontline ahead of a demanding campaign on both domestic and European fronts.
