Newcastle United extend Lewis Hall contract after impressive season start

Newcastle United have extended Lewis Hall’s contract on a long-term deal after the defender made an impressive start to the current campaign.

The 22-year-old has made 107 appearances for the Newcastle United first team since August 2023. He has also provided two assists in five games in all competitions this season.

Hall, who has won four England caps since making his international debut in November 2024, said the new agreement was a proud moment.

“I’m extremely happy. It’s a truly proud moment,” he told the club’s website. “It’s a pleasure to play for this club and represent the supporters. I know how much it means to them.”

He added: “The fanbase and the support we receive here, both at St James’ Park and away from it, is the best in the league in my opinion. Being able to put a smile on their faces is a great feeling for me.”

Hall also spoke about his family’s connection with Newcastle United and the importance of representing the club.

“Obviously, I have a family connection with the club, which is hugely important to all of us,” he said. “One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me play for Newcastle United.”

He said he had been encouraged by Newcastle’s start under their new manager and coaching staff.

“It really is a fantastic place. I’ve really enjoyed the way we’ve started the season, especially with the new manager and coaching staff coming in, and I think we can achieve some really big things,” Hall added.

Jassim praises Hall’s development

Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle said he had been impressed by Hall since arriving at the club and regarded him as an important part of the team’s plans.

“I’ve liked Lewis since I arrived. He’s a very important player for us and for what we’re building here, so this is exciting news,” Jaissle said.

“The combination of his abilities and qualities makes him a perfect fit for our team, and his mentality is exactly what we look for in a young player. He wants to learn every day and improve in every game.”

Jaissle also highlighted Hall’s versatility and contribution in both defence and attack.

“Lewis covers a huge amount of ground in a way that only a few players can,” he said. “He defends with maturity and intelligence, while his technical level means he can support the team in advanced areas of the pitch.”

Newcastle are due to face Leeds on Monday before playing Hull City ahead of the international break covering September and October.
