Newcastle United consider early sale of Yoane Wissa after £55m move

Newcastle United are weighing up whether to move on Yoane Wissa less than a year after his big-money arrival from Brentford, with the deal having been worth up to £55m.

The 29-year-old pushed hard for his switch to St James’ Park and is understood to remain keen on staying, having signed a long-term contract only last summer.

On the pitch, however, Wissa has struggled to establish himself. He has featured 24 times in all competitions but has started just one of Newcastle’s last 16 matches, returning only three goals in that spell. For a player brought in at significant expense to add cutting edge in attack, that output has inevitably raised questions about his role going forward.

After a disappointing campaign, Newcastle United are preparing for a substantial squad reset ahead of next season. Offloading Wissa is one option under consideration as the club look to refresh their forward line and rebalance finances, even though any sale would almost certainly come at a sizeable loss on their initial investment. How firmly they push for an exit may depend on interest from elsewhere and the shape of their wider summer rebuild.
