Newcastle manager Eddie Howe hails ‘huge potential’ of new midfield signing Aladji Bamba

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe believes new signing Aladji Bamba has the attributes to develop into a top midfielder after the Premier League club completed the 20-year-old’s move from AS Monaco.

The Magpies secured Bamba’s signature in a deal reportedly worth £30 million, with a further £5.5 million in performance-related add-ons, according to Sky Sports.

The France youth international of Guinean descent has signed a five-year contract and will inherit the club’s vacant number eight shirt following Sandro Tonali’s departure.

Howe welcomed the arrival of the highly rated midfielder, describing him as another exciting addition to Newcastle’s long-term project.

“I’m really pleased to see Aladji become a Newcastle player. He’s another exciting, young signing who we’re really looking forward to working with.”

The Newcastle boss believes Bamba will strengthen his midfield options immediately while possessing significant room for improvement.

“Aladji adds depth and a range of qualities to our midfield options, with a huge potential for growth.”

Monaco progress earns Newcastle’s confidence

Howe also highlighted the midfielder’s rapid rise at Monaco, insisting the club is confident it can help take his game to the next level after his impressive breakthrough in France.

“His development since breaking through at Monaco has been really impressive and something we believe we can help him build on.”

The Newcastle manager also pointed to Bamba’s tactical versatility, praising his ability to influence matches from multiple areas despite primarily operating in a deeper midfield role.

“He operates in a deeper role but has the ability to contribute all over the pitch, which he demonstrated in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season.”

Bamba arrives at St James’ Park after making 18 senior appearances for Monaco last season, registering two assists while gaining valuable experience in both Ligue 1 and European competition.

The move represents another investment in youth by Newcastle as the club continues to assemble a squad capable of competing consistently at the highest level.
