Newcastle join race for Egypt’s Omar Marmoush
Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Egypt international Omar Marmoush as uncertainty continues to surround the forward’s future at Manchester City following a season of limited opportunities.
According to TEAMtalk, the Magpies have made enquiries about the 27-year-old’s availability, becoming the latest Premier League club to register an interest in the striker.
Newcastle’s approach comes after Tottenham were also reported to have been monitoring Marmoush’s situation for several weeks, with interest in the Egyptian continuing to grow ahead of the new season.
Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 and made an encouraging start to life at the club.
The forward quickly adapted to the Premier League, scoring seven goals in 16 league appearances during the second half of his first campaign and establishing himself as an important attacking option.
However, his fortunes changed during the following season as regular playing time became more difficult to secure.
Marmoush featured in 21 Premier League matches but started only eight of those games. He finished the campaign with three goals and three assists, a noticeable decline from the impact he made after his arrival.
The reduction in playing time has fuelled speculation over his future, with several clubs now closely monitoring developments at Manchester City.
Despite growing transfer interest, Marmoush has not reached a decision on his next move.
Reports indicate that the Egypt international wants to understand the plans of new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca before determining whether his long-term future remains at the club.
The striker is reportedly keen to learn what role he is expected to play under the new coaching staff before considering offers from elsewhere.
Marmoush remains under contract with Manchester City until 2029, giving the Premier League champions control over his immediate future.
While Newcastle and Tottenham are among the clubs following his situation in England, reports also suggest that several clubs in Germany are keeping a close watch on the player’s circumstances.
For now, no agreement has been reached, and Marmoush is expected to wait for greater clarity over his position within Manchester City’s plans before making a final decision.
As the summer transfer window progresses, interest in the Egyptian forward continues to build, with Newcastle now joining a growing list of clubs hoping to secure the services of a player whose future at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain.
