Newcastle United and Bayer Leverkusen are weighing up offers for Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah, with both clubs identifying the 22-year-old as a potential summer acquisition.
The England U21 international, who has Ghanaian heritage, is drawing significant interest after a breakout season at Anfield.
According to reports from Chronicle Live and The Athletic, Newcastle and Leverkusen consider Quansah an undervalued asset at Liverpool, especially under the incoming managerial regime of Arne Slot.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Quansah was discussed as part of separate talks involving Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool.
“In a separate discussion, they also spoke about Jarell Quansah,” Romano said.
“As part of a conversation in a separate deal – he will not be a part of the Wirtz story – he’s a player appreciated by Leverkusen. So, it’s between Quansah and Loic Badé.
“For Quansah, it’s an important point about the salary of the player because Leverkusen have a different salary structure.”
Newcastle, who previously inquired about Quansah and his Liverpool teammate Joe Gomez last summer during their failed pursuit of Marc Guehi, remain interested.
With Quansah currently representing England at the U21 European Championships, his stock continues to rise.
Reports suggest Bayer Leverkusen are considering a bid in the region of £40 million, with Liverpool facing a critical decision. The young defender featured regularly in the 2023/24 campaign, often stepping in when Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konaté were unavailable. Should a deal materialise, Liverpool would need to act swiftly to reinforce their defence ahead of the new season.
At present, no defensive reinforcements have been linked with Liverpool, leaving Quansah’s future a key subplot of their summer plans.
