Sabri Lamouchi says reaching at least the semi-finals of the next Africa Cup of Nations is his minimum target after taking charge of the Tunisia national football team, insisting his motivation is sporting ambition rather than financial reward.
The former international was appointed following Tunisia’s disappointing campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and immediately outlined a results-focused approach.
He emphasised that contractual bonuses played no role in his decision to accept the job, framing the position as a challenge built on pride and responsibility.
“The goal for the next AFCON will be at least the semi-finals. I haven’t accepted any bonuses, I just want to win,” he stated with conviction.
Lamouchi said success with Tunisia would be measured less in financial terms and more in the connection formed with supporters.
He believes public enthusiasm and national unity will be central to any revival following the previous tournament’s setback.
According to the coach, the emotional value of a major achievement for the country would outweigh personal gain.
He described the potential reaction of supporters as the true reward for both players and staff.
“In any case, even if I don’t take a bonus, if we manage to do what I hope we will, In Shaa Allah, the Tunisians will give us a lot, and that is priceless.”
His message signals a shift in tone as Tunisia attempt to rebuild confidence and competitiveness.
Lamouchi’s approach places emphasis on collective commitment, with the expectation that unity between team and fans can restore momentum.
The new coach now faces the task of guiding the Carthage Eagles back towards the latter stages of continental competition, with his ambitions clearly defined before a ball has been kicked under his leadership.
