FIFA has imposed a fresh transfer registration ban on Zamalek, adding a new layer of difficulty to the club’s already complex financial and sporting situation.
The latest decision, described as the tenth case against the Cairo giants, stems from unpaid debts owed to former players, coaches, and clubs linked to past transfer deals.
According to details of the case, several former coaches, including Portuguese manager Jose Gomes and Swiss coach Christian Gross, have already secured rulings in their favor from FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber over overdue salaries and compensation.
Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera has also filed an official complaint to claim his outstanding financial entitlements from his previous spell in charge. Former players have joined the queue of creditors, winning cases against Zamalek over delayed payments.
A source cited in the report told Kooora that this tenth case specifically relates to money owed to Ukrainian club Oleksandriya for the transfer of Brazilian player Juan Bezerra.
Despite these sanctions, Zamalek has continued to move within the local market, announcing on Friday the renewal of midfielder Mohamed El Sayed’s contract for three and a half seasons, while agreeing to release Nasser Maher to Pyramids FC.
The new ban, however, threatens to limit future squad rebuilding plans unless the club settles its mounting debts.
