Dirk Kuyt Retires from International Football After a Decade of Service
Dutch international Dirk Kuyt has officially retired from the Netherlands national team, ending a remarkable 10-year international career that saw him become a key figure in some of the Oranje’s most memorable campaigns.
The 34-year-old winger, who currently plays for Fenerbahçe, made 104 appearances and scored 24 goals for his country. He was instrumental in the 2010 World Cup, where the Netherlands finished runners-up, and played a vital role again in their run to the semi-finals in Brazil in 2014.
Kuyt explained his decision:
“I want to be important for the team, but the coach explained to me that there was no more room for me… I look back with pride on these ten wonderful years spent with the national team.”
Current national coach Guus Hiddink acknowledged Kuyt’s contribution:
“We respect his choice and thank him for everything he has done.”
Dirk Kuyt leaves behind a legacy of tireless work ethic, versatility, and dedication—hallmarks of his decade-long presence in the national squad.
