Sepp Blatter, president of FIFA, expressed his sadness at the death of Nelson Mandela and announced that a tribute would be paid to Mandela during the next day of friendly matches. Blatter stated that, “As a sign of mourning, the flags of the 209 FIFA member associations will be at half-mast at FIFA headquarters, and a minute of silence will be observed during future international matches.” The next FIFA day of friendly matches is scheduled for March 5, 2014.
