Ndoffène Fall names five Senegalese talents to watch at the U17 World Cup
As Senegal prepare for their third appearance at the FIFA U17 World Cup, former national player Ndoffène Fall has highlighted five standout youngsters expected to shine when the tournament begins in Qatar.
Following their WAFU-A Cup triumph in Mali, coach Pape Ibrahima Faye’s side head into the global showpiece aiming to surpass their previous round-of-16 finishes in 2019 and 2023.
The Young Lions, drawn in Group C with Croatia, Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates, recently held Morocco to consecutive draws (0-0 and 2-2) in friendly matches as part of their build-up.
Despite minor injury setbacks and logistical challenges, their preparations have been largely positive.
El Hadji Malick Cissé — A leader at the back
Versatile and composed, El Hadji Malick Cissé is capable of playing both as a central defender and a defensive midfielder.
Ndoffène Fall described him as a very good defender, tenacious, with excellent distribution and uncompromising in duels. A player highly sought after by scouts.
The young star’s performances have already caught the attention of Burnley, Ipswich Town and FC Barcelona, according to reports.
Alwaly Baba Camara — The unexpected gem
Midfielder Alwaly Baba Camara of Espérance Sportive du Grand Yoff earned his place in dramatic fashion.
Initially not part of the squad, he joined training by chance and impressed so strongly that coach Faye kept him on.
“He was breathtaking in both friendly matches against Morocco, Fall said. He anticipates his teammates’ movements and reads the game like a maestro. His passes break lines and open up space. He is the one entrusted with the keys to the U17 national team’s attacking play.”
Moussa Cissé — The midfield anchor
From Génération Foot, Moussa Cissé brings a blend of defensive grit and playmaking intelligence.
Having already represented Senegal at the African Nations Championship (CHAN), his experience gives him an edge.
“He anticipates plays before everyone else, intercepts passes, and wins back an impressive number of balls thanks to his positioning, Fall explained. Through his exemplary conduct and commitment, he inspires his teammates and stabilizes the team.”
Reports suggest French club FC Metz are monitoring his progress.
Mouhamed Dabo — The captain returns
Team captain Mouhamed Dabo, who missed the last U17 AFCON due to MRI eligibility issues, has returned stronger with Manchester United’s youth setup.
“He stands out for his excellent ball control, particularly during build-up play or under pressure, said Fall. He’s capable of stopping the opposition and winning the ball back cleanly, which is essential for a midfielder. A talent to watch very closely.”
Babacar Bousso — The experienced striker
Leading the attack is Babacar Bousso, who recently joined Ajel de Rufisque from Sonacos de Diourbel.
Unlike many of his peers, Bousso already has senior-level experience.
“He impresses with his running speed and physical power, Fall observed. He reads the defense perfectly and makes incisive runs in behind. His movement creates space for teammates, and his experience can elevate the team.”
With these promising talents, Senegal’s Young Lions enter Qatar with renewed confidence and a hunger to make history on the world stage.
