Ndlovu targets trophies after completing Mamelodi Sundowns switch

Siyanda Ndlovu says the chance to compete for multiple trophies convinced him to leave Golden Arrows for Mamelodi Sundowns in one of the most talked-about moves of the current transfer window.

The 22-year-old attacker has joined the two-time African champions after a standout campaign for Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership, and believes the environment at Chloorkop will push him to a higher level.

Ndlovu, who came through the development structures at Arrows, scored four goals and registered six assists in 25 appearances last season for Abafana Bes’thende, form that attracted interest from Sundowns’ technical team.

Speaking on The Pitchside Podcast with DJ Naves, the player known as ‘Skhwishi’ said the opportunity to fight for silverware on multiple fronts was central to his decision.

“Mamelodi Sundowns competes for a lot of trophies,” said Ndlovu. “It’s very competitive side even in the league. So even I as a player have had a wish that if I get to Sundowns I’ll compete for these cups and grow in my game.”

The forward added that he views the move as a step designed not only to enhance his career but also to test himself in a squad packed with quality and ambition.

Ambition to make an impact at Chloorkop Ndlovu emphasised that he does not see himself as merely adding depth to the Sundowns squad, and has set out to earn his place by contributing consistently on the pitch.

“My message to the fans is that I’ll do my best to fight for the team, to fight for the badge,” he said.

“I want to contribute to strengthening this team, to work hard so I just don’t add numbers. I have to work hard and add value like other guys.”

His comments underline an awareness of the competition for places at a club that regularly challenges for the Betway Premiership title and domestic cup honours, as well as competing on the continental stage.

From Golden Arrows prospect to big-club signing Ndlovu’s rise comes after years in the Golden Arrows system, where he progressed from the development ranks to establish himself in the first team.

Last season’s return of four goals and six assists in 25 matches highlighted his creativity and end product, making him one of the standout young attackers in the division and earning him his high-profile transfer to Chloorkop.

Now at a club with a recent history of success in domestic and African competitions, Ndlovu will be expected to adapt quickly to the demands and expectations that come with playing for Sundowns, as he seeks the trophies and personal growth that persuaded him to make the switch.
