Morocco defender Nayef Aguerd among Marseille players reportedly making financial concessions

Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd has reportedly agreed to defer part of his salary at Olympique de Marseille as the French club looks to ease financial pressure.

According to reports, Marseille has been seeking financial concessions from several members of the squad as it attempts to reduce the burden on its wage bill.

The club has already cut its payroll by parting ways with several high earners, including Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Leonardo Balerdi. However, those departures have reportedly not been enough to completely address Marseille’s financial concerns.

Aguerd agrees to defer part of his salary

Marseille has subsequently approached some of its remaining players, asking them to either accept reductions in their salaries or defer part of their earnings.

Aguerd is reportedly among those who agreed to cooperate with the club.

The 30-year-old defender has reportedly accepted a deferral of part of his salary, giving Marseille additional room to manage its short-term financial commitments.

The Moroccan remains part of Marseille’s defensive plans as the club prepares for the new season, and his reported decision could provide the club with some additional financial flexibility.

Højbjerg and Gomes also make concessions

Aguerd is reportedly not the only Marseille player to have accepted financial changes.

Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, who is reportedly the club’s highest-paid player, is said to have accepted a salary reduction in return for a contract extension.

The arrangement would allow Marseille to spread his earnings over a longer period.

English midfielder Angel Gomes has also reportedly agreed to defer part of the significant signing bonus he received after joining the club.

Kondogbia and Harit reportedly reject proposals

Not every player has agreed to Marseille’s requests, however.

According to reports, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Moroccan international Amine Harit declined the club’s proposals.

The pair reportedly pointed to financial concessions they had already made in the past as a reason for rejecting the latest requests.

Aguerd’s reported decision comes as Marseille continues to restructure its finances while preparing for the new campaign.

The Morocco international’s willingness to defer part of his salary could give the club some breathing room as it attempts to balance its sporting ambitions with its financial constraints.
