Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd leaves Marseille for treatment as Hamed Traoré heads to Finland
Olympique de Marseille have confirmed that Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd and Ivorian midfielder Hamed Traoré will continue their medical treatment abroad as both players battle injury setbacks.
In an official statement released on May 7, the French club announced that the two players had been granted permission to travel in order to pursue specialised care as they continue their rehabilitation programmes.
Aguerd has endured a difficult campaign after being sidelined since early March with a pubalgia-related injury.
The Moroccan international has struggled for continuity this season, making only 22 appearances for Marseille across all competitions.
His most recent outing came on March 4, 2026, during Marseille’s Coupe de France defeat to Toulouse, a match that ended 4-3 after extra time.
Since then, the defender has remained unavailable, with the injury significantly affecting his season.
According to the club, Aguerd will travel to Morocco to continue his recovery process alongside the medical staff of the Moroccan national team.
Marseille stated that the rehabilitation programme will be managed in coordination with all parties involved.
Hamed Traoré is also facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a groin injury during Marseille’s recent 3-0 defeat to Nantes on May 2.
The midfielder was forced off the pitch on a stretcher during stoppage time and was replaced by Ugo Lamare El Kadmiri.
The injury has now prompted further medical evaluation, with Traoré set to travel to Finland for treatment under the supervision of a specialist focused on adductor-related injuries. Reports indicate that a possible surgical procedure is also being considered.
Marseille explained that the decision was made “to allow Nayef Aguerd and Hamed Traoré to travel as part of the continuation of their medical care”.
The club added that it remains in close contact with the various medical teams overseeing both players’ treatment and extended its support as they work towards recovery.
With the season entering its final stages, the absences of Aguerd and Traoré represent another challenge for Marseille as the squad continues to deal with important injury concerns.
