National Bank pulled off a thrilling 4-2 win over Pyramids at Cairo International Stadium on Friday in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League, dealing a blow to the title contenders and boosting Al Ahly’s chances at the top.
The match exploded into action when Mohamed Ibrahim found the net just four minutes in. Osama Faisal doubled the lead in the 21st minute, bringing his season tally to 11 goals, matching Al Ahly’s Imam Ashour and Zamalek’s Nasser Mansi as top scorers.
Pyramids responded in the second half with Ibrahim Adel narrowing the gap in the 48th minute and Marwan Hamdy levelling things up in the 74th.
But National Bank refused to fold. Ahmed Madbouly restored the lead in the 82nd minute before Yaw Annor of Togo sealed the win just four minutes later.
The result leaves Pyramids stuck on 47 points in second place, while National Bank climbs to fourth with 36. With Al Ahly sitting on 49 points and a possible 3-point deduction looming, the title race just got tighter.
