Nathanael Mbuku joins Sint-Truiden from Augsburg on season-long loan

DR Congo-France winger Nathanael Mbuku has joined Belgian club Sint-Truiden from German side Augsburg on loan, with the move taking him to the Jupiler Pro League until 30 June 2027.

The 24-year-old left winger switches leagues after spending the previous campaign with Montpellier. That spell was also on loan, before Mbuku returned to Augsburg at the end of June 2026.

Mbuku initially joined Augsburg from French club Stade Reims in January 2023 on a free transfer. Since then, he has spent time away from the Bundesliga side with Saint-Etienne, Dinamo Zagreb and Montpellier, making the latest move his fourth loan spell since arriving in Germany.

He began the 2026-27 campaign registered with Augsburg but had not made a Bundesliga or DFB-Pokal appearance before completing his move to Sint-Truiden. His new club have secured a player who operates on the left wing and prefers his left foot.

Mbuku was born in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, France, and holds both French and DR Congo nationality. He represented DR Congo at the 2026 World Cup, appearing in three matches and starting half of them. He did not score or provide an assist during the tournament and received one yellow card.

The transfer gives Mbuku another opportunity to play regular competitive football after a series of temporary moves during his time at Augsburg. His previous loan outings have taken him to clubs in France and Croatia, while his latest destination marks his first move to Belgium.

At Stade Reims, Mbuku progressed from the club’s youth structure into the senior side after earlier spells with Fleury’s youth team and Lusitanos. He moved from Reims to Augsburg permanently in 2023, ending his initial development in France and beginning his association with the German club.

Mbuku’s current market value is €2m, while his highest recorded value was €9m. He is listed at 1.70m and wears the number 11 shirt at Sint-Truiden.

The loan agreement between Augsburg and Sint-Truiden was completed on 3 September 2026, with Mbuku contracted to remain in Belgium until the end of June 2027.
