Nathan Ngoumou still pushing for long-awaited comeback
Nathan Ngoumou continues to work hard on his return to action for Borussia Mönchengladbach as he waits for his first minutes after a long injury lay-off.
The attacking player has been sidelined for just over a year with a ruptured Achilles tendon and is still chasing his long-awaited comeback in the Bundesliga.
Head coach Eugen Polanski explained in Thursday’s press conference that a return to the matchday squad is now a realistic option. However, the key question is whether Gladbach can actually give him minutes if he is included. “If we take him with us, we also want to give him playing time,” Polanski stressed, making it clear they do not want him on the bench just for show.
At one stage, the idea of giving Ngoumou some rhythm with a run-out for the U23s was also discussed. But because he had not completed a full training week, the club ultimately decided against that step for now.
“Now we have to see what the weekend brings,” Polanski added, keeping the door open for a short cameo soon. Ngoumou’s last Bundesliga appearance came on Matchday 28 of the 2024-25 season against FC St. Pauli.
