Nasser Mansi late header gives Zamalek first Capital Cup win
Zamalek snatched a dramatic 2-1 victory over Haras El Hodoud to claim their first win in the Egypt Capital Cup group stage at Al Mokawloon Al Arab Stadium.
Amr Nasser opened the scoring with a fine header in the 16th minute, before Mohamed Bayoumi equalised for Haras with a powerful strike in the 37th minute.
Substitute Nasser Mansi became the hero deep into stoppage time, rising to head home in the 90+9 minute, ending his personal goal drought that had lasted since scoring against Pyramids in the Egypt Cup final last June. The result lifts Zamalek, coached by Ahmed Abdel Raouf, to 4 points and top of Group 3 on goal difference ahead of Al Masry, while Ahmed Zahran’s Haras El Hodoud stay bottom with no points.
The first half saw Zamalek create several chances through Amr Nasser, Ahmed Sherif, and Bezira, who missed two big one‑on‑ones, while Haras tested goalkeeper Mahdi Suleiman through Ahmed El Sheikh. After the break, both sides traded opportunities, with Bezira wasting another clear chance and the woodwork denying Anas Wael in the 90th minute.
In a frantic finale, the referee twice awarded penalties to Zamalek before VAR downgraded both to free kicks, sending off Fawzi El Hanafi for Haras before Bezira’s last cross was headed in by Mansi.
In the same group, Smouha and Al Ittihad played out a goalless draw in Alexandria, while in other groups ENPPI came from behind to beat Talaea El Gaish 2-1 and El Gouna defeated Pyramids’ youth side 2-0.
