Napoli set for crunch talks with Romelu Lukaku over future
Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku is set to hold a crucial meeting with head coach Antonio Conte and sporting director Giovanni Manna after failing to report back to the club on time, according to La Repubblica.
The Belgian forward is expected to rejoin the squad around a week later than initially planned, by April 20, with decisive talks scheduled for Tuesday, April 21.
That meeting is likely to determine Lukaku’s immediate and long-term future in Naples. Club officials are reportedly considering strong disciplinary measures, including the possibility of excluding him from the squad for the rest of the season and putting him on the market in the summer.
Tensions have been growing since Lukaku opted to remain in Belgium for recovery after the last international break rather than returning promptly to club duty, a decision that has not gone down well with the Napoli hierarchy. T
he 32-year-old joined the club from Chelsea in the summer of 2024 for €30.7 million on a deal running until 2027, but has struggled to make an impact, registering just 1 goal in 7 appearances this season. His future at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona now appears to be hanging by a thread.
