Napoli open talks with Chelsea for Franco-Congolese defender Benoît Badiashile
Serie A champions Napoli have stepped up their search for defensive reinforcements by opening negotiations with Chelsea over a potential move for France international of DR Congo descent Benoît Badiashile.
The Italian giants are keen to strengthen the heart of their defence ahead of the new season and have identified the 24-year-old as one of their priority targets.
According to reports, Napoli have already initiated discussions with Chelsea in an attempt to secure Badiashile on an initial season-long loan with an option to make the deal permanent.
However, Chelsea are reportedly unwilling to agree to those terms.
The Premier League club are said to favour either a permanent transfer during the current transfer window or a loan agreement that includes a mandatory obligation for Napoli to purchase the defender at the end of the season.
With Badiashile still tied to Chelsea until 2031, the Blues remain in a strong negotiating position and are under no pressure to sanction a deal that does not meet their expectations.
Despite the differing positions of both clubs, talks remain ongoing as they explore possible compromises that could satisfy all parties.
Negotiations are still at an early stage, but the coming days are expected to be crucial in determining whether the French international will continue his career in Italy or remain at Stamford Bridge.
Badiashile joined Chelsea with high expectations but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter amid fierce competition and recurring fitness setbacks.
Last season, the former AS Monaco defender featured just 16 times across all competitions and failed to register a goal or an assist. His limited game time has fuelled speculation over his future, with Napoli hoping to offer him a fresh opportunity to revive his career.
Napoli’s interest comes as the club looks to build a squad capable of defending its Serie A crown while also mounting a strong challenge in European competition.
The Neapolitan outfit views Badiashile as a defender with the physical attributes, composure and experience needed to strengthen its backline despite his recent struggles for regular minutes at Chelsea.
According to Transfermarkt, Badiashile is currently valued at €15 million, although Chelsea’s valuation and preferred transfer structure could prove to be the biggest obstacle to completing the move.
For now, discussions continue between the two clubs, with Napoli hopeful of reaching an agreement that would bring the French defender to southern Italy before the transfer window closes.
