SSC Napoli have reportedly offered to sign German attacker of Nigerian descent Karim Adeyemi for a fee of €40 million.
The bid presented to Borussia Dortmund has according to sources been rejected.
Adeyemi’s development has seen a sharp rise under the guidance of new Dortmund coach Niko Kovac.
Once considered an inconsistent talent, the 23-year-old has flourished in a system that emphasises structure and discipline qualities Kovac has brought in abundance.
As a result, Dortmund are already weighing up a contract extension for the dynamic winger and have no intention of letting him go anytime soon.
Despite Dortmund’s firm stance, Napoli are undeterred. The Serie A side, led by coach Antonio Conte and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, are making another attempt to lure Adeyemi to Naples with their €40 million bid.
Both Conte and De Laurentiis reportedly view Adeyemi as a cornerstone for the club’s next chapter.
Still, the chances of a deal remain slim. Dortmund have made it clear that any negotiation would only start at a minimum of €65 million if they’re even willing to listen.
Napoli are expected to present another bid to Dortmund next month.
