YACINE BAMMOU: “IF MOROCCO CALLS ME FOR THE CAN, I’LL GO”
While the Confederation of African Football (CAF) continues to weigh options regarding the host country for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) amidst the Ebola outbreak, Yacine Bammou is quietly dreaming of representing Morocco in the continental tournament.
Currently enjoying a strong season with FC Nantes, the French-born striker of Moroccan descent spoke to 20 Minutes about his aspirations:
“It’s a pleasure to hear my name mentioned [for Morocco], but no one has contacted me personally,” Bammou said. “Every player wants to represent their national team—it’s a huge honor. Plus, we’d be automatically qualified and have the support of the whole country. My entire family is based in Rabat.”
Despite being focused on club performance, Bammou made it clear:
“The CAN is on my mind. If they call me, I’ll go. It’s not something you turn down.”
His remarks come at a time when Morocco has threatened to withdraw as host unless CAF agrees to postpone the tournament due to public health concerns. Whatever the decision, one thing is certain: Yacine Bammou is ready to answer the call if Morocco reaches out.
