Nana Welbeck: Imperia sign experienced midfielder from Livorno on free transfer

Imperia have completed the signing of defensive midfielder Nana Welbeck from Livorno on a free transfer. The 31-year-old, who holds both Ghanaian and Italian nationality, joins the Serie D Girone A side with a current market value of 75,000.

Welbeck leaves Livorno after one season, having moved there from Lucchese Calcio in July 2025. His latest switch keeps him in Italy but takes him from Serie C Girone B down to Serie D, where Imperia compete in Group A.

Born in Accra on 24 November 1994, Welbeck is a right-footed holding midfielder standing 1.69m tall. He has spent the bulk of his professional career in Italian football, most notably with Catania and Catanzaro, before more recent spells at Lucchese and Livorno.

Welbecks move to Imperia continues a long journey across several European leagues. After emerging in the Brescia youth and Primavera sides, he joined Atalanta and later moved on loan, then permanently, to Slovenian club NK Krka. He subsequently played in Denmark for Odense Boldklub and in Bosnia-Herzegovina with FK Mladost Doboj-Kakanj before returning to Italy with Catania in 2019.

His market value has gradually declined from a peak of around 350,000 during his time at Catanzaro to 75,000 ahead of this transfer, reflecting his transition from higher-tier Serie B and Serie C football into the lower divisions.

Welbeck now becomes part of an Imperia squad competing in Serie D Girone A, adding experienced midfield cover following his most recent campaign with Livorno in Serie C Girone B.
