Namibia star Peter Shalulile explains why he chose Young Africans after Mamelodi Sundowns exit

Peter Shalulile has revealed that a conversation with Young Africans (Yanga) president Hersi Ally Said and a period of prayer played a crucial role in his decision to join the Tanzanian giants following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Namibia international recently completed a move to Yanga after opting against extending his stay with the South African champions, bringing an end to a trophy-laden spell at Sundowns.

Explaining the reasons behind his decision, Shalulile said the move was influenced by both personal conviction and a memorable encounter he had with the Yanga president several years ago.

According to the prolific striker, Hersi had told him during their first meeting that he had dreamt of seeing him play for Yanga one day. That conversation remained with him and resurfaced when the opportunity to join the Tanzanian champions eventually arose.

“It was a little bit tough, but what made it easy for me was I met the chairman a few years ago,” said Shalulile.

“And he had a dream that I’ll one day play for this big club which is Yanga. For me also, it was a personal choice.

“I make decisions based on how my heart feels. Spiritually, it means follow where your heart wants you to be.

“When we spoke with chairman, we spoke and I said give me like two days. I prayed about it and obviously the Lord made it possible for me and I ended up here.”

Shalulile’s comments underline the importance of faith and personal belief in his decision-making process, with the striker insisting that he followed his heart when choosing his next destination.

The former Sundowns star is expected to spearhead Yanga’s ambitions both domestically and in continental competitions as the club looks to maintain its dominance in Tanzania and challenge for honours in the CAF Champions League.

His arrival is regarded as one of the biggest signings in East African football, with the experienced forward bringing a wealth of experience, goals and winning mentality to the Dar es Salaam-based side.

For Shalulile, the move represents more than just a transfer. It is the fulfilment of a journey that began years ago with a conversation, strengthened by prayer, and ultimately guided by a belief that Yanga was the right place for the next chapter of his career.
