Namibia head to Russia for international friendly against Russian national team

Namibia’s national side, the Brave Warriors, have arrived in Russia ahead of their international friendly against the Russian national team in Yekaterinburg on 3 October.

The delegation received a warm welcome on arrival, with each member presented with a piece of green malachite and a traditional welcome armband. The stone is strongly associated with the Ural region.

The fixture comes after Namibia suffered a 1-0 defeat by Comoros in the second round of qualifying for the TotalEnergies CAF PAMOJA 2027 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.

Benjaloud Youssouf scored the only goal in the 54th minute, following a goalless first half, to secure Comoros’ first victory in the campaign. The result gave them three points after their opening 3-1 loss to Cameroon.

Namibia had begun their qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Congo but could not find an equaliser against Comoros, despite making several second-half changes in an attempt to earn a draw.

The outcome leaves Comoros, Namibia and Cameroon level on three points in Group G. Cameroon, however, have played one match fewer.
