Nacional bring Portugal and Guinea-Bissau midfielder Matchoi Djalo back to Liga Portugal

Matchoi Djalo, the Portugal and Guinea-Bissau attacking midfielder, has joined Nacional from Turkish club Basaksehir.

The 23-year-old completed the move on 13 August 2026, returning to Portuguese football after two years with Basaksehir. Djalo began his senior career at Pacos Ferreira before leaving the club for Turkey in July 2024.

Djalo spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Polish side Wisla Plock. That loan ended on 30 June 2026, with the midfielder returning to Basaksehir before switching to Nacional.

The move takes Djalo to a club competing in Liga Portugal and gives Nacional a midfielder who can operate in an attacking role. He is right-footed and stands 1.80m tall.

Born in Bissau on 10 April 2003, Djalo developed in the Pacos Ferreira system after progressing through the club’s under-15 and under-17 teams. He joined the Pacos Ferreira senior set-up before making his move to Basaksehir, where he signed as a free agent in July 2024.

His time at Basaksehir included a loan spell in Poland. Djalo joined Wisla Plock on 13 August 2025 and remained there until the end of the 2025-26 campaign, before returning to his parent club.

Nacional have also entered the 2026-27 Uefa Conference League qualifying campaign, although Djalo has not made an appearance in the competition this season. His move to the Portuguese side was registered on the same day as the transfer.

Djalo’s arrival represents the latest stage of a career that has taken him from youth football in Portugal to senior football in Turkey and Poland, before bringing him back to his home country. His previous club was Basaksehir, while Nacional becomes the latest team in his professional career.

The transfer also places Djalo at a club in the same national league where he began his senior journey with Pacos Ferreira. He spent time in that club’s youth structure from 2018 before moving into its senior ranks.

Nacional have now completed the signing of Matchoi Djalo from Basaksehir, with the attacking midfielder joining the Portuguese club on 13 August 2026.
