Nabil Bentaleb has made an inspiring comeback to training, seven months after experiencing a cardiac arrest.
The 30-year-old midfielder’s return was confirmed by Lille OSC head coach Bruno Génésio during a pre-Coupe de France press conference ahead of Lille’s clash with Olympique de Marseille.
“Nabil has been with us for a few days now. He has a physical trainer. For the rest, I cannot give you the information which as you can understand is confidential,” Génésio shared.
The manager added, “The only thing I know is that today he resumed individual training with the ball. I saw him, and have spoken to him two or three days in a row. He’s well, he’s in good spirits, and everyone is waiting for him.”
Bentaleb’s football future was uncertain after he collapsed on June 18, but swift action from a friend and medical staff saved his life. Following a protocol used by Dutch cardiologists, he can return to play once cleared by doctors, with his recovery offering hope to many.
