Algerian Nabil Bentaleb absence raises concern for Lille’s Champions League push
Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb remains unavailable for Lille as they push for a UEFA Champions League place, although recent updates suggest his condition is improving.
The absence of the 57-cap international comes at a critical stage of the season, with Lille entering the final stretch of their campaign.
Bentaleb has played a central role in the team’s recent performances, helping to drive a strong run of form that included four consecutive victories before their defeat to Nice.
His influence in midfield has been widely noted, with Lille showing consistency and control during matches in which he featured prominently.
Without him, concerns have grown among supporters about the team’s ability to maintain that level during decisive fixtures.
Head coach Bruno Génésio is set to be without the Algerian for the upcoming matchday, as the player has yet to return to full group training.
While this prolongs his absence, there are indications that his situation is improving.
According to reports from Le Petit Lillois, Bentaleb is “doing better,” offering a degree of reassurance to the club and its supporters.
However, his recovery has taken longer than initially expected, with what was first described as a minor issue now delaying his return.
The uncertainty surrounding his fitness has extended beyond club level. In Algeria, attention is also focused on his condition as the national team prepares for upcoming decisions ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Bentaleb’s recent performances and experience have positioned him as a strong candidate for selection.
With Lille still competing for a place in Europe’s top club competition, his potential return could prove significant.
For now, the situation remains unresolved, with the player continuing his recovery as both club and country monitor his progress closely.
