Nabil Baha praises Morocco’s mental strength after dramatic U17 World Cup win over USA
Nabil Baha applauded his players on Friday after Morocco defeated the United States on penalties to reach the next round of the U17 World Cup in Doha.
The national coach watched his team claim a 4-3 shootout win after a 1-1 draw in regulation time on field no. 7 at the Aspire Zone.
He highlighted the team’s grit, attacking urgency, defensive discipline, and constant desire to push for the maximum throughout the match.
He noted that his players reacted with belief after conceding and fought back to level the score.
Baha said the staff prepared for a difficult contest and guided the squad through the emotional pressure that followed their loss against Portugal.
He credited the psychological work carried out by the coaching team, saying it restored confidence and helped the players enter the match with a positive mindset.
He said the group trusted goalkeeper Chouaïb Bellaarouch as they entered the shootout.
The coach pointed out that Bellaarouch built a record of reliability in past matches and delivered once again.
His saves secured Morocco’s place in the next round and lifted team morale.
Baha thanked the Moroccan supporters in Doha for their influence during the penalties.
He said the fans played a part in unsettling the American players and gave Morocco the energy they needed in the closing stages.
The coach then looked ahead to the upcoming match against Mali.
He recalled Morocco’s victory over Mali in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in this age category but insisted that the World Cup brings a new mindset and new demands.
He expects a difficult match and said the team will chase victory to continue their journey.
Bellaarouch, who received the man-of-the-match award, praised the squad for their collective effort.
He said the group showed commitment and determination and earned the result through unity.
He added that the Mali match will bring a different challenge and called on the team to maintain focus.
