Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has revealed that his decision to represent Nigeria ahead of Germany was never in doubt, describing it as a deeply personal choice rooted in identity and ambition.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper, who came through the youth ranks in Germany and featured for the European nation at junior level, admitted that despite his upbringing and development within the German football system, his ultimate dream was always to play for Nigeria.

Okoye’s journey reflects that of many dual-nationality players faced with a defining international decision. But for the goalkeeper, the choice was clear long before it became official.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty TV, he emphasized that representing Nigeria was more than just a career move, it was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream tied to his roots.

“I always knew I wanted to play for Nigeria,” he said. “Of course, I went to youth German selections, but when the time came for Nigeria, I knew this was a dream, and I made it come true, by God’s grace.”

Since pledging his international future to Nigeria, Okoye has grown into a key figure for the Super Eagles, bringing composure, agility, and international experience to the squad. His commitment has also endeared him to fans, who value players that show clear passion for the green and white jersey.

His decision highlights a broader trend in African football, where players born or raised in Europe increasingly choose to represent their countries of heritage, strengthening national teams with diverse experience and exposure.

For Okoye, however, it was never about weighing options—it was about answering a calling. And in choosing Nigeria, he not only realized a personal dream but also embraced the responsibility of representing one of Africa’s football powerhouses on the global stage.
