Mushaga Bakenga Loaned to German Second Division Side Braunschweig
Norwegian striker Mushaga Bakenga is set to gain experience in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga after FC Bruges announced his season-long loan move to Eintracht Braunschweig.
The 21-year-old forward, of Congolese descent, joined Club Bruges in 2012 from Norwegian side Rosenborg but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. Since his arrival, Bakenga has been loaned out twice before — first to local rivals Cercle Brugge, where he impressed by netting 12 goals during the 2012-13 season, and then to Danish club Esbjerg.
In January, FC Bruges secured his transfer from Rosenborg, amidst reported interest from Bundesliga sides Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hannover. However, limited playing time at Bruges, where he has made just three appearances and scored once, prompted the decision to send him on loan to Germany.
Braunschweig, competing in the second tier of German football, will provide the young striker with the opportunity to develop further in a competitive environment. The club aims to bolster its attacking options ahead of the new season.
Bakenga’s pace and finishing ability have marked him out as a promising talent, and this loan spell could be crucial in helping him realise his potential.
FC Bruges will monitor his progress closely, hoping he returns ready to compete for a regular place in their squad.
