Munir El Haddadi eyes World Cup glory with Morocco
Munir El Haddadi has expressed strong belief in the future of the Morocco national football team, stating his ambition to see the side compete for the FIFA World Cup 2026 title in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with DAZN, he said the current generation has the quality to challenge for football’s biggest prize.
Confidence in Morocco’s Golden Generation
El Haddadi highlighted the rapid progress of Moroccan football in recent years, pointing to the team’s strong performances and the breakthrough at the 2022 World Cup as evidence of sustained growth.
He believes this group of young players has the potential not only to reach the latter stages but also to compete for the final itself.
Respect for Big-Match Moments
When discussing a potential World Cup final against Spain, El Haddadi stressed that such matches are decided by fine margins.
However, his main focus remains on seeing Morocco go as far as possible and delivering joy to fans who continue to support the team passionately.
AFCON Final Memories and Controversy
He also revisited the Africa Cup of Nations Final 2025 between Morocco and Senegal, describing it as a tense and emotionally charged encounter.
While noting that players were not fully aware of all the details surrounding the controversy, he acknowledged the disappointment felt by supporters who were hoping for a home triumph.
International Journey and Career Choices
El Haddadi reflected on his international career, including his decision to represent Morocco after previously featuring for Spain in 2014 with the Spain national football team.
He described this switch as an important milestone that shaped his identity as a professional footballer.
Barcelona Learning Experience
The forward also looked back on his time at FC Barcelona, where he shared the dressing room with some of the world’s top players. He described the experience as a “football school” that helped him develop technically and mentally through daily exposure to elite talent.
Sevilla Triumph and New Challenges
Among the highlights of his club career, El Haddadi pointed to winning the UEFA Europa League 2020 Final with Sevilla FC as a defining achievement. He also spoke about his move to Iranian football, explaining that the decision was motivated by a desire for a new challenge and more consistent playing time.
Looking Ahead with the Atlas Lions
Overall, El Haddadi’s remarks reflect optimism about the future of Moroccan football. With a strong generation of emerging talent and continued development within the system, he believes competing for major international trophies is no longer just a dream, but a realistic ambition for the coming years.
